Walden Pond State Reservation, .2 mi. s. on SR 126 at 915 Walden St., consists of 330 acres, including the 102-foot-deep pond of Henry David Thoreau's “Walden.” Stones near the north shore mark the site where Thoreau built his cabin in 1845. Trails abound, and fishing, swimming and boating are permitted. Explore the visitor center and take advantage of programs and guided tours to learn about Thoreau's legacy. To protect the natural resources, daily attendance is capped at 1,000. Guided tours are available. Recreational activities are permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
