The House of the Seven Gables

The House of the Seven Gables is at 115 Derby St. The site comprises a collection of First Period buildings, including New England's oldest surviving wooden mansion, the 1668 Turner-Ingersoll Mansion, which inspired Nathaniel Hawthorne's 1851 classic novel. Also on the grounds—from which a panorama of Salem Harbor can be seen—are the author's 1750 birthplace, the 1655 Retire Beckett House, the 1682 Hooper-Hathaway House, the 1830 Counting House (now known as Kids Cove where children can engage in hands-on activities about Salem's maritime history) and the Colonial Revival seaside gardens. Guided tours of The House of the Seven Gables are included in the mansions pass. A ground's pass also is available for those wanting to tour the gardens only. Guided tours are available. Food is available.
