The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature, 201 10th St. W., is said to be the largest natural and cultural history museum on Florida's Gulf Coast. The museum interprets the region from the Pleistocene to the present. The first floor features the Montague Tallant collection, fossil evidence of Florida’s earliest animal inhabitants and archaeological material representing Paleo-Indian, archaic and pre-contact cultures. Exhibitions on the second floor feature local maritime history and regional biodiversity. The Planetarium at The Bishop uses advanced digital projection systems to present astronomy programs in a dome theater. The Parker Manatee Rehabilitation Habitat, part of Florida's manatee rehabilitation network, is home to manatees under rehabilitation. Note: Mosaic Backyard Universe, an immersive children's center, is under construction; phone ahead. Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
