Stilwell Museum (Shidiwei Bowuguan)

This former residence of General Joseph Stilwell was converted into a popular museum where travelers can learn about this commander-in-chief of the American Army in the China Burma India Theater and learn about his life, conquests, and death while wandering the 1940s-style halls. The grounds offer some of the best views in Chongqing.
The 3-story home of General Stilwell has been left with much of the simple furnishings that existed during the time he lived there, along with household utensils, uniforms, and manuscripts from the general’s life. A monument in the courtyard depicts the general, alongside a quote from Franklin D. Roosevelt. Visitors can access meeting rooms, bedrooms, and a basement where hundreds of artifacts are on display. The museum often features as a stop on sightseeing tours of Chongqing, along with Eling Park, the People’s Hall, and Old Town.

The museum is located in Stilwell’s former 3-story residence on Jialingjiang Binjiang Road in Yuzhong. To get there, take the light rail to Liziba Station or the metro to Fotuguan or Eling Stations.
The museum is open daily from 9am to 5pm for much of the year. It closes during January and February for routine maintenance and upkeep.
