Port of Cannes (Port de Cannes)

Port de Cannes CCI Côte d'Azur Service Commerce Promenade de la Pantiero, Cannes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur

With a picturesque location on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, the Port of Cannes (Port de Cannes) is a gateway to both the cinematic glamor of Cannes and the rest of the beautiful French Riviera. Disembark here to explore the pretty town of Cannes itself or head to glitzy enclaves such as Monte Carlo, St-Tropez, and Eze.

Visitors docking at the Port of Cannes can head out on a walking tour of the dynamic city, which is filled with lush gardens and colorful streets. You can also take day trips to nearby cities, such as Monte Carlo, Nice, and the ancient St. Paul de Vence.

Other excursions include visits to Monaco’s narrow medieval streets or trips through the villages of Provence. Day tours usually include transportation and lunch. Alternatively, book a private tour and customize your itinerary of French Riviera highlights.

  • Cannes is most crowded in May, when the annual film festival takes place; to avoid the crowds, visit during autumn or early spring.

  • All of the city’s museums (and some restaurants) are closed on Mondays; on Sunday, most shops are closed, and buses are limited.

  • There is Wi-Fi in most cafés, restaurants, and tourist information centers in Cannes.

  • The majority of attractions in Cannes offer wheelchair access, but you should check in advance to be sure.

Cruise ships dock in the bay and passengers take tenders (small boats) to the Old Port (Le Vieux Port). From there, it's a short walk to Cannes’ city center, where you’ll find the Quai Laubeuf bus station and the Marine Railway Station (Gare Maritime). Shore excursions typically depart from the dock.

French is the official language in Cannes, but many locals also speak English. The currency is the euro, and there are many ATMs at or near the cruise port.

Sitting at the western end of the Plage de la Croisette, the main attractions near the Port of Cannes (Vieux Port) include the Cannes Film Festival Venue (Palais des Festivals et des Congrès) and Le Suquet, Cannes’ red-roofed Old Town backed by green hills.

Yes, you can take a boat tour of the Port of Cannes. Many cruises from Cannes depart from outside the Vieux Port area. Some sightseeing cruises around the Bay of Cannes and the Lérins Islands start from the Jetée Albert Edouard port, while ferries to Île Sainte-Marguerite depart from the opposite side of the port.

Dining options abound around the Vieux Port area of Cannes. Walk east along the beachfront, and you’ll hit beach clubs with restaurants. These tend to be more expensive and you might need to reserve a table. If you’re happy to forgo sea views, check out the restaurants in nearby rue Saint-Antoine.

Yes, walk east from Vieux Port to reach the Plage de la Croisette. While much of the beach is taken up with beach clubs, there is a public beach where you can experience La Croisette’s famously soft sand without paying. In the other direction, there is also the sandy Plage du Midi.

The Vieux Port area of Cannes is small, so there aren’t tours solely focused on it. However, many Cannes day trips and tours of the town include it on their itineraries. Walking tours, private tours, and photo tours often wander past the scenic port before visiting La Croisette.

Yes, anyone can visit the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès and even take photos on the red carpet. You can also book tours of the inside, which last around 1.5 hours. However, when the Cannes Film Festival is in full swing in May, you might not be able to get close.
