Montevideo Port Market (Mercado del Puerto)

Located in Montevideo Old Town, the plaza outside is filled with outdoor-seating restaurants and craft stalls, while inside you’ll find even more eateries and shops. Next door to the market, the Carnival Museum (Museo del Carnaval) houses a colorful collection of costumes, drums and masks, as well as photos and recordings, from Montevideo’s Carnival, which is the longest carnival in the world, with celebrations lasting up to 50 days. During summer, performances are held in the museum’s courtyard.
