Escape the city for the wilderness at the Hanover Adventure Zoo (Erlebnis Zoo Hannover), where themed zones re-create some of the world’s most spectacular wildlife destinations. Animal lovers can travel from Canada's Yukon Bay to the African Savannah or the Australian Outback and spot more than 3,000 animals—all within the city limits.
Entrance to the zoo includes full access to the exhibition areas, as well as the daily schedule of animal feedings, zookeeper talks, and animal shows. Explore the Jungle Palace, home to tigers, leopards, and grey langur monkeys; take a trip to Outback Australia to spot kangaroos and emus; and enjoy a boat cruise along the Zambezi River. Additional animal exhibits include polar bears, gorillas and chimpanzees, rhinos, red pandas, elephants, and giraffes.
Entrance fees to the Hanover Adventure Zoo vary depending on age; children under 2 get in free.
Paid parking is available on-site, but be aware that the zoo is in the city’s Green Zone, and foreign vehicles require a green sticker to visit.
Facilities include multiple restaurants, gift shops, picnic areas, and children’s play areas.
The zoo is wheelchair-accessible.
The Hanover Adventure Zoo is located just east of downtown. To get there, take the U-Bahn to the Zoo station, from which it’s a 2-minute walk to the zoo entrance.
The zoo is open daily from morning to evening. It’s busiest on weekends and during school holidays; visit outside of these times to avoid the crowds. Feedings and zookeeper talks are held throughout the day, so it’s worth timing your visit accordingly if you have a favorite animal.
