Hall of Mirrors (Galerie des Glaces)

Château de Versailles, Place d’Armes, Versailles, Île-de-France

The opulence of the Palace of Versailles reaches its peak in the Hall of Mirrors (Galerie des Glaces)—a 240-foot-long (73-meter-long) ballroom with 357 mirrors adorning 17 huge arches on one side and 17 arcaded windows overlooking the formal gardens on the other. It was also the location of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, which formally ended World War I.

The Hall of Mirrors is easily the most famous of Versailles’ 700 rooms and the crown jewel in an already magnificent building. Most travelers visit on a day trip from Paris. Due to the immense popularity of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, consider booking a skip-the-line entrance ticket or VIP tour that grants access to the site, including the Hall of Mirrors, right when it opens and before it gets too crowded.

  • The Hall of Mirrors is a highlight of Versailles and a must-see for first-time visitors.

  • Versailles ranks among the most popular attractions in France, so it’s a good idea to book your ticket ahead of time.

  • Don’t forget your camera; the Hall of Mirrors is one of the palace’s most photogenic spots.

  • The palace, including the Hall of Mirrors, is accessible to wheelchairs.

The Hall of Mirrors is located within the Palace of Versailles, with the king’s and queen’s apartments to either side. The closest train station is Versailles Château Rive Gauche.

Visit the Hall of Mirrors and the Palace of Versailles on a weekday morning (except Tuesdays) to avoid the crowds as much as possible. Get there first thing, and tour the palace first before heading out to enjoy the gardens. The palace is closed on Mondays.

The Palace of Versailles offers various ticket options depending on how much you want to see and how long you want to spend on the grounds. A basic palace ticket includes the Hall of Mirrors, as well as the rest of the rooms open to the public and any temporary exhibitions. If you want unlimited access to everything Versailles has to offer, including Trianon and the Musical Fountains show, opt for a Passport.
