Gold Museum (Museo del Oro) is one of the city’s most popular attractions. It sparkles with more than 55,000 priceless archaeological and artistic treasures. Only a fraction can be displayed at any one time, laid out to tell tales of pre-Colombian mining, manufacturing, and metallurgy of pre-Hispanic Colombians.
The Gold Museum is Bogotá’s most famous museum, as well as one of the most fascinating in South America. The permanent collection occupies three floors, with descriptions in Spanish and English. Don’t miss the Offering Room, where a light and sound show teaches visitors how gold was used in religious rituals. For a deeper understanding, join a guided tour, which can be combined with a visit to Lake Guatavita, where many gold artifacts were recovered.
Gold Museum is a must-visit for history buffs and first-time visitors.

The easiest way to reach the museum via public transportation is to take the TransMilenio toward Las Aguas and get off at Museo del Oro Station. If you decide to drive, two-hour free parking is available.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday year-round, with shorter hours on Sunday. The museum can become crowded on Sunday when admission is free.
