Chattanooga Riverwalk

Chattanooga, Tennessee

Stretching for over 16 miles (25 kilometers) along the Tennessee River, the Chattanooga Riverwalk is the city’s premiere outdoor green space. This paved path offers access to river views, shady benches for picnics, and space for a long run or cycle (bike rental stations are available, too). The Riverwalk also makes it easy to reach Chattanooga attractions like the Tennessee Aquarium and Hunter Museum of American Art on foot.

Visitors looking to stretch their legs and take in the views around Chattanooga often turn to the city’s Riverwalk. It’s possible to explore independently and at your own pace, or join a tour that highlights local history, food, and art. Along its path, the Riverwalk offers easy access to the outdoor artwork at the Hunter Museum, the scenic Walnut Street Pedestrian Bridge, and restaurants and bars with views of the Tennessee River.

  • The Chattanooga Riverwalk is a must-visit attraction for outdoor enthusiasts and families seeking playgrounds for children.

  • Bike rental stations are available along the Riverwalk.

  • The paved path of the riverwalk is accessible for both wheelchairs and strollers.

  • Seven wheelchair-accessible restrooms are located along the path, which is lighted and patrolled by security 24 hours a day.

The Chattanooga Riverwalk has dozens of entry points throughout the city. Visitors often walk from their hotel to the Riverwalk, or head to an access point near a parking facility. Some of the most popular entry points include Ross’s Landing and the Hunter Museum. Public transportation by bus is available for getting around Chattanooga.

The best time of year to visit Chattanooga is during the fall months from September to December. Expect mild temperatures and fewer crowds after the peak summer season has passed. While many visitors come to Chattanooga during the summer, be prepared for hot temperatures.

If you’d like to get out on the Tennessee River, there are several options available from the Riverwalk. Choose between renting kayaks or stand-up paddleboards, or go electric and give equipment like water bikes or electric paddleboards a try. These activities provide a unique perspective of the Riverwalk and the Tennessee River.
