POINT OF INTEREST

Cap de Creus

Girona

Located in far northeast Catalonia near the French border, Cap de Creus is the easternmost point of the Iberian Peninsula. A wild and rugged landscape overlooking the Mediterranean, Cap de Creus is home to a lighthouse, nature reserve, hidden coves, and dramatic coastal scenery, with fancifully shaped rocks that inspired Salvador Dali.

Hiking is a popular way to explore Cap de Creus, including its hidden coves, and a popular trail connects the nearby towns of Cadaqués and Port Lligat with the lighthouse. Scenic drives and boat cruises offer different ways to see the region. Cap de Creus is included on Salvador Dalí-focused tours that stop at Figueres, Cadaqués, and Port Lligat; wine tasting tours of the Emporda wine region; and hiking tours of Costa Brava.

  • Cap de Creus is ideal for nature lovers and photographers.

  • There is a café and restaurant near the Cap de Creus lighthouse.

  • Bring plenty of water and wear sun protection if hiking to the lighthouse, as there is limited shade. A light jacket may be helpful as it can get quite windy.

  • Both the land and waters around the cape are protected as part of the Cap de Creus Natural Park. You must stay on marked trails.

Cap de Creus is located in northeast Catalonia. The nearest airports are Perpignan, France, Girona-Costa Brava, and Barcelona. The closest train station is at Figueres. From there, you can take a bus or taxi to Cadaqués, the nearest town. A car is an easy way to get around Cap de Creus. Guided tours typically include transfers from Barcelona, Girona, and elsewhere.

Cap de Creus and the nearby towns are most popular over the peak summer season. Over the summer and other holiday periods, access to Cap de Creus Point is closed to cars and motor vehicles, and you’ll need to park in Cadaqués and take a shuttle bus. During peak season, visit in the early morning to avoid crowds and heat.

The Cap de Creus region is home to a number of small and hidden coves. Within the nature reserve, you must stay on marked trails, which limits the available coves by land to Jugadora Cove, Culip Cove, and Gentils Cove, which you can reach by trails from Cape de Creus Point.
