Sprawling over 20 acres (8 hectares) of tropical forest and gardens, Bali Zoo is home to an eclectic mix of animals, including Indonesian favorites such as Sumatran elephants, Borneo orangutans, and babirusa pig-deer. Visitors are encouraged to get up close with experiences such as “breakfast with orangutans” and elephant encounters.
Visit Bali Zoo with a standard ticket or upgrade for an extra fee to enjoy animal experiences such as a mud bath with elephants, breakfast with orangutans, a night safari with a buffet dinner and fire dance, or the chance to play mahout (elephant driver) for the day. Some Bali Zoo ticket packages include meals and door-to-door transfers from Ubud and south Bali, sparing visitors the risks and hassles of driving.

About 7 miles (11 kilometers) south of Ubud, Bali Zoo is easily accessible from Sanur and Kuta. The Kura Kura tourist bus stops here en route from Duty Free Stores (DFS) Bali in Kuta to Ubud, with a stop at McDonald’s in Sanur as well. Many visitors prefer to book ticket packages that include door-to-door round-trip transfers.
The Bali Zoo is open from 9am to 5pm daily. Night safari dinner evenings run from Monday to Friday, with the popular orangutan breakfast encounter before opening. As many families choose to spend the entire day here, there is rarely a quiet time to visit.
From colorful tropical birds and lions to elephant baths and orangutan encounters, the Bali Zoo can be a magical experience for children, who’ll jump at the opportunity to be a mahout.
