Bahrain Fort (Qal'at al-Bahrain)

One of the best ways to delve into Bahrain’s history is to visit Bahrain Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Persian Gulf’s most important archaeological sites. The most important artifacts from the ancient Dilmun Empire were found here, telling a lot about the power of Dlimun and its successors in the Tylos and Islamic periods.
Most visitors to Bahrain Fort are part of either group or private Greater Bahrain tours. Since you can do a live or audio-guided tour of the fort and museum and its five exhibition halls in a few hours, visiting Bahrain’s other landmarks and making it a full-day outing is worthwhile. Combine this fort’s history lesson with some shopping at Manama Souq or the Bahrain City Center complex, and check out Al Fateh Grand Mosque, too.
The fort is free for locals, but foreigners must pay a small fee, so be prepared.

The fort is just a short distance from Manama, so either hire a taxi or you can easily find the way yourself. Take the 5 Bus from Manama, then walk about a half-hour walk to the site. Or, drive yourself following the signposts from Manama; it only takes about 10 minutes.
