Alanya Shipyard (Alanya Tersanesi)

Most of the shipyard that can be seen today was rebuilt in 1226, when it served as a key naval base for the Seljuk navy. Later, it was an important Mediterranean trading port, with ships setting sail for Egypt, Syria, and Cyprus. Tours of Alanya often include a visit to the evocative ruins, alongside Alanya Castle and the Red Tower—walk down to explore the old docks or admire the views from the water as you sail past on a boat cruise.

• Most of the boardwalk between the Red Tower and the Shipyard is accessible for wheelchairs and strollers, but exploring inside the docklands might be tricky.

Alanya Shipyard is on the seafront, just south of the Red Tower and about a 20-minute walk or 10-minute taxi ride from either of Alanya’s beaches. The shipyard is reachable on foot, and it’s about a 10-minute walk from the Red Tower along the old sea walls.

The shipyard is open daily from morning to early evening, year-round. July and August are peak season, and the narrow walkways from the Red Tower can get crowded at times. Early morning is the best time to dodge the crowds, while the cooler evening hours are among the most popular times to visit.

The 95-foot (29-meter) Red Tower (Kizilkale) is one of Alanya’s most distinctive landmarks, standing watch over the city’s marina. Built in the 13th century, the now-restored tower was once one of 140 towers that made up the sea defense walls of Alanya Castle. Today, it’s one of the city’s most visited attractions, affording views along the coast, as well as the gateway to Alanya Shipyard.
