Winter Park, Florida

The former resort town of Winter Park, Florida, exudes charm and encourages relaxation, showcasing some of the best natural scenery in central Florida. Nature lovers flock to this suburban city in Orange County to enjoy more than 70 parks. For those still looking for a resort feel, Winter Park also has top-notch golf courses and a popular shopping district.

Winter Park’s Main Street is a lively area. It serves as a cultural hub, complete with art galleries, a liberal arts college, museums, a cemetery, and a beach where boaters enjoy easy access to a nearby launch. Two of the city’s most famous attractions are Rollins College and the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art; the latter destination is home to the world’s largest collection of Tiffany glass. Book a guided bike tour of the city to learn about its historic sites while enjoying the Florida sun.

  • Winter Park offers a quiet option and easy escape from the crowds and commotion in nearby Orlando.
  • The city’s website offers cycling and walking maps, showing bike lanes, shared use paths, and streets commonly used by cyclists.
  • The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art takes about 1-2 hours to explore; there are free audio tours that are accessible via cellphone, as well as guided tours.

Winter Park is located a mere 15 minutes from Orlando, making it a great day, side, or weekend trip if you’re in the area. You can access Winter Park via the state’s SunRail service, which currently operates 16 stations through Volusia, Seminole, Orange, and Osceola counties. The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art is a 5-minute walk from the Winter Park station. Trains only run on weekdays.

Every Saturday morning, the Winter Park Farmers Market, which is held at the restored train depot, offers up a selection of local produce, plants, baked goods, and more. Overall, the best time to visit the area is from March to May, when it’s not too hot and humid and hotel rates are reasonable.

Located less than an hour away by car from Winter Park, the Kennedy Space Center, which is adjacent to the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Titusville, Florida, provides an alternative to the nearby Orlando attractions. The center includes historic engine replicas and full-size rockets, the Space Shuttle Atlantis, and hands-on exhibits about traveling into space.
