Arlington National Cemetery

Among those buried are the original owners of the estate, George Washington Parke Custis and his wife Mary Lee Fitzhugh Custis, in addition to Gen. Omar Bradley, three-time presidential nominee William Jennings Bryan, Rear Adm. Richard E. Byrd, Lt. Gen. Claire L. Chennault, Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, Chief Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, President John F. Kennedy, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, engineer Pierre-Charles L'Enfant, heavyweight champion boxer Joe Louis, Gen. George C. Marshall, Medal of Honor recipient Audie Murphy, first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Rear Adm. Robert E. Peary, Gen. John J. Pershing, Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg and Chief Justice Earl Warren.

The cemetery is open daily 8-7, Apr.-Sept.; 8-5, rest of year. The welcome center is closed on Christmas. Paid parking, available off of Memorial Drive at the welcome center, is $2 per hour. People visiting grave sites of relatives can use a free shuttle service to get around the cemetery. Special vehicle passes are available to the physically impaired, who must show their handicapped placard. For those using public transportation, the closest Metro stop to the cemetery entrance is the Arlington Cemetery station on the Blue Line.

The ANC Explorer app allows visitors to locate graves and other points of interest using a smartphone or web browser. In addition, you can view and download photos, obtain walking directions and self-guiding tour details, and save information. The app is available through the cemetery’s website, kiosks in the welcome center and online app stores.

Guided bus tours leave from the welcome center continuously daily 8:30-7, Apr.-Sept.; 8:30-5, rest of year. Arlington National Cemetery Tours Inc. fare is $13.50; $10 (ages 65+); $6.75 (ages 3-11 and active military and veterans with ID); $3.25 (dependents ages 4-12 of active military); free (ages 0-2 and military personnel in uniform).
