Bayfield has been dubbed Wisconsin's Berry Capital; throughout the summer, visitors may choose from picking cherries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries or blackberries at local farms. In the autumn, apples, pumpkins and squash are ripe for harvesting.
Sightseeing cruises among the Apostle Islands and ferry service to Madeline Island, both offshore in Lake Superior, depart from Bayfield. In the winter a motorized windsled offers transportation to the island until the lake freezes and cars can travel on an ice highway.
From early June through early October, Bayfield Heritage Tours offers guided tours of the town: Ghost and Legends of Old Bayfield, More Ghosts, Sven's Architect and Moonlight in the Cemetery. Phone (715) 779-0299 for further information.
In early October, the Bayfield Apple Festival features an arts and crafts show as well as boat cruised and a boat parade.
The area affords good hunting, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, kayaking, boating and sailing. Deepwater fishing trips leave the pier daily; a fishing license is required.
