Pulitzer Prize-winning author Louis Bromfield is a native of Mansfield. John Sherman, brother of Gen. William T. Sherman and author of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act, practiced law here for a time. Mansfield also has fostered artists. Displays of their works, including acrylic paintings, watercolors, photographs, quilts and weavings, can be seen at the Mansfield Art Center , 700 Marion Ave; phone (419) 756-1700.

The convention and visitors bureau offers brochures detailing a driving tour of local film sites used in the 1994 movie “The Shawshank Redemption.” Among the locations are the 1896 Ohio State Reformatory, Oak Tree and Central Park.
