DESTINATION

Chestertown

A spirit of independence prevailed in 1774 when citizens, enraged over England's tea tax, threw overboard tea brought into port by the brigantine Geddes. Soon after, Chestertown sent provisions to the similarly inclined town of Boston, which was suffering from the effects of the Boston Port Act.

Washington College was founded in 1782. Named after George Washington, on whom it conferred an honorary degree of doctor of laws, the college was visited by its namesake in 1784.
