The Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge is a protected ecological area with habitats ranging from beaches and sand dunes to salt marsh. Within the refuge is Coyote Hills Regional Park, where marshlands and rolling, grass-covered hills lend themselves to outdoor activities like hiking, biking and bird-watching. The park’s visitor center has educational exhibits and a picnic area. It’s open Wed.-Sun. 10-4; phone (510) 544-3220.
