In addition to transporting skiers, mountain bikers and hikers, the Mammoth Mountain Scenic Gondola accesses the Eleven53 Interpretive Center , which offers spectacular views, interactive displays examining local geography and naturalist-led tours of Mammoth’s 11,000-foot summit; phone (800) 626-6684. Also completed were a 17,000-square-foot day lodge and The Village at Mammoth, a 20-acre complex of shops, restaurants and condominiums.

The Mammoth Lakes Repertory Theatre, 100 College Pkwy., offers performances August through May; phone (760) 934-6592.

Summer visitors come for camping, hiking, climbing, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, golfing, horseback riding, mountain biking and swimming. The spectacular oranges, reds and golds of autumn's aspens, cottonwoods and willows greet leaf-peepers mid-September through mid-October.
