University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum is near the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus at 1207 Seminole Hwy. Covering 1,200 acres along Lake Wingra and south of the West Beltline Highway, the arboretum acts as a research and teaching unit that features natural plant and animal communities native to Wisconsin. Seventeen miles of trails offer recreational enjoyment of prairies, oak savannas, wetlands, and woodlands. The Arboretum also has two garden collections. Longenecker Horticultural Gardens is a collection of horticultural trees and shrubs, including crabapples, lilacs, magnolias, and conifers. Surrounding the visitor center, the 4-acre Wisconsin Native Plant Garden features nearly 500 native Wisconsin plant species and demonstrates landscaping with native plants.

The Arboretum offers free naturalist-led tours on Sundays.

Bimonthly exhibits at the Steinhauer Trust Art Gallery feature nature-themed art and photography. Free naturalist-led tours are offered on Sundays.

Pets and picnicking are not permitted.
