The Lincoln-Tallman House

The Lincoln-Tallman House is at 440 N. Jackson St., on US 14 Bus. Rte., 2 blks. n.e. of jct. US 51. The 26-room Italian Villa-style house was built by William Morrison Tallman, a wealthy attorney and abolitionist from New York. When the house was built 1855-57, it had such conveniences as running water, a communication system, central heating, plumbing and gas lighting. Abraham Lincoln was a weekend guest in 1859.
