AAA Editor Notes
Smoke Hole Canyon lies along Smoke Hole Rd. in the Seneca Rocks unit; take SR 28/11 s. from jct. SR 28 at Cabins. The half-mile-deep gorge was formed by the south branch of the Potomac River as it ran between North Fork and Cave mountains. SR 2 leads northwest from US 220 north of Upper Tract, traverses a portion of the gorge and ends at the Big Bend Campground. Among Smoke Hole's notable formations is Eagle Rock, which towers upward from the river.
