National Archives Museum galleries and theater are accessed via the entrance on Constitution Ave. at 9th St. N.W. The National Archives preserves federal government records of enduring value. Visitors can see the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The David M. Rubenstein gallery, showcasing the permanent exhibit Records of Rights, features an original copy of the 1297 Magna Carta. In the exhibit and through an interactive table, visitors can explore stories of how generations have sought to define the freedoms promised in our founding documents. In the multimedia Public Vaults exhibition gallery visitors can eavesdrop on presidential conversations, view declassified top-secret documents and investigate the sinking of the Titanic.
Special public programs are held in the William G. McGowan Theater. The Lawrence F. O'Brien Gallery presents changing exhibitions.
