AAA Editor Notes
Thoroughgood House, 1636 Parish Rd., is one of the oldest surviving brick houses from the Colonial period. Guided tours of this small residence on the Lynnhaven River highlight the life of colonist Adam Thoroughgood, who came to Virginia in 1621 as an indentured servant. He quickly rose in stature and eventually became a member of the House of Burgesses at Jamestown. The structure, built by Thoroughgood's great grandson Argall in the early 1700s, is furnished with 17th- and 18th-century antiques.
