Newport News Park is on SR 143, .5 mi. w. of jct. SR 105 at 13564 Jefferson Ave. The 7,711-acre woodland park includes bridle and nature trails. Jogging, hiking, fishing, boating, canoeing, paddleboating, bicycling, archery, geocaching, disc golf and golf also can be enjoyed.
Confederate gun positions, Union trenches and a dam built to halt Gen. George McClellan’s march toward Richmond are visible. The Discovery Center offers programs and exhibits about the natural features and history of the park.
