Edgewood Plantation is on SR 5 at 4800 John Tyler Memorial Hwy. The restored 7,000-square-foot Gothic mansion, built by Spenser Rowland in 1849, features a freestanding, winding, three-story staircase as well as 10 fireplaces. Guided tours take in 11 rooms containing antique furnishings, Victorian memorabilia and period clothing.
Two gazebos, formal gardens, slave quarters and a 1725 gristmill are on the grounds. Special events, tours and educational programs also are offered, including a tea lunch; a nightly ghost tour with wine and cheese; Victorian Christmas, held mid-November through December 31; and Charles Dickens Candlelight Tours, available mid-November through January 1.
