Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park is at 10 W. First St. near Wood Ave. An 1880s house contains exhibits relating to the exploration and development of southwestern Virginia and the lives of the early settlers of that region.
The first floor of the museum features exhibits about the area's coal and iron ore deposits and their part in the town's “boom and bust” mining past. Second- and third-floor displays offer Victorian and pioneer memorabilia including a quilt exhibit, tools, household furnishings and Native American artifacts.
