Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium

Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium, 1302 Main St., houses a large collection that includes art and antiques, village and crafts tools and more than 75,000 natural-science specimens like shells, rocks and mounted animals. The museum also is home to the Eye in the Sky Weather Center (a working studio that is not open to visitors) and Vermont's only public planetarium. It also hosts a traveling exhibit that runs from one summer to the next. The 1891 building was designed by noted architect Lambert Packard to house the “cabinet of curiosities” of Franklin Fairbanks, nephew of Thaddeus Fairbanks, the inventor of the platform scale.
