Brackenridge Park is 2 mi. n. at 3700 N. St. Mary's St. Named after philanthropist George Brackenridge who donated 199 acres of land for public parkland on the east side of the San Antonio River in 1899, the park today is made up of that original acreage along with donated land from the west side of the river to create the 349-acre park with the San Antonio River flowing through it.
Highlights include The Japanese Tea Garden , bicycling trails, fishing (with a license), picnic facilities, ball fields, playgrounds, the historic Sunken Garden Theater, an 18-hole golf course, The Witte Museum , the San Antonio Zoo and the San Antonio Zoo Train which runs daily through the park with stops at various points of interest. The park also has three walking trails: the 1.5 mile Waterworks Trail, the 1-mile Wildlife Trail and the .75-mile Wilderness Trail.
Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Recreational activities are permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
