Sam Houston Schoolhouse State Historic Site is 2.6 mi. n.e. on Wildwood Rd., then .4 mi. n. on Sam Houston School Rd. to 3650 Old Sam Houston School Rd. This log cabin schoolhouse was built in 1794, two years before Tennessee became a state. Sam Houston, later commander of the Army of Texas, governor of Tennessee and Texas, and president of the Republic of Texas, taught area residents here when he was 18 years old. Displays relate to Houston and local history.
