The Athenaeum Rectory

The Athenaeum Rectory is at 808 Athenaeum St. The 1835 house of Moorish-Gothic design has many original features and furnishings. The building was built by Samuel Walker, a nephew of President James K. Polk. It is all that remains of the Columbia Athenaeum, a nationally known women's college founded in 1852 by the Rev. Franklin Gillette Smith.
