The Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center

The Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center is off I-90 exit 402, 8.5 mi. n. on N. Timberline Ave. (478th Ave./CR 121), then 1.1 mi. e. to 47914 252nd St. The facility's remote sensing technology acquires data about and images of the Earth's ever-changing land masses and relays the information to natural resource managers, scientists, urban planners, government and other entities throughout the world. Interactive exhibits in the lobby explore such topics as how scientists use remote sensing satellite data to monitor changes on the Earth and how satellites operate. A Native American winter count exhibit also is on-site.

During 1-hour guided tours, visitors view a third-scale model of the Landsat 8 satellite, satellite imagery from around the world, and the computer room, where staff members monitor the equipment and tools supporting EROS' partnership with NASA. Visitors also learn about ecological impact and how imagery is used to study geology, topography and vegetation, and peruse an exhibit about natural disasters and how sciences are utilized to predict and understand them more accurately.

Note: Visitors must pass a security check and show a legal photo ID (driver's license or passport) in order to gain admittance to the center and for vehicles to enter the property. Visitors and their vehicles may be searched at any time while on the premises. Animals are prohibited with the exception of guide dogs or other animals assisting individuals.
