AAA Editor Notes
The South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center, 900 Governors Dr., is on the Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail. Interpretive hands-on exhibits pertaining to South Dakota's pioneer, Native American and 20th-century history occupy the earth-covered building, which has an innovative design.

Permanent displays include the Verendrye Plate, a lead plate left behind by a 1743 French expedition; an original Jefferson Peace Medal; a mining sluice; a sod house; a general store; and a model cow that can be hand-milked.
