York W. Bailey Museum

York W. Bailey Museum, in the Penn Center Historic District at 16 Penn Center Cir. W., depicts the culture and history of the Sea Islands' African American population since the Civil War. A 20-minute video and a permanent exhibit, Education for Freedom, details the history of Penn Center, which was founded as Penn School in 1862 to provide formal education and settlement assistance to former slaves.
