H.L. Hunley/Warren Lasch Conservation Center is off I-26 exit 216B, 1.1 mi. n. on SR 7 (Cosgrove Ave.), just n.w. on Spruill Ave. and e. on McMillan Ave. onto the former navy base to 1250 Supply St., following signs. Visitors view the H.L. Hunley in its conservation tank at this working lab facility. The vessel was the first successful combat submarine. Lost at sea after sinking the USS Housatonic during the Civil War, it was discovered in 1995 and raised in 2000. The facility also has other interactive exhibits and artifacts from the sub and its crew.
