Clemson University, 11 mi. w. of I-85 exit 19B on US 76 at 109 Daniel Dr., was established in 1889 as a scientific college on the former plantation of John C. Calhoun, a prominent statesman and U.S. vice president, senator and secretary of state. Maps and information for tours of the 1,400-acre campus can be obtained at the visitor center on Daniel Drive next to the Alumni Center.
