Shrine of Notre-Dame-du-Cap

Shrine of Notre-Dame-du-Cap (Sanctuaire Notre-Dame-du-Cap) is at 626 rue Notre-Dame Est. Each year thousands of believers make their pilgrimages to Canada's national shrine to the Virgin Mary. The 1659 wooden chapel was replaced by a stone building inaugurated in 1720. The Basilica of Notre-Dame-du-Cap, inaugurated in 1964, is a modernistic octagonal structure that seats 1,660.

The Madonna of Notre-Dame-du-Cap within the chapel has been considered miraculous since 1888, when her eyes allegedly became momentarily animated.
