Forges of St. Maurice National Historic Site (Lieu historique national des Forges-du-St-Maurice), 13 km (8 mi.) n. at 10000 boul. des Forges, is the 50-hectare (124-acre) site of Canada's first industrial community. From 1730 to 1883 the industrial village of Trois-Rivières influenced the economic, political and social climate of Canada. The forge mainly produced iron bars for shipbuilding, stoves, pots and pans, kettles, wagon wheels, axes and ammunition.

The two main interpretation centers, the Ironmaster's House and the Blast Furnace present the story of cast-iron making, charcoal making and the processes of treating such raw materials as iron ore. A multimedia show and various interpretative activities also are offered.

Tour narration in English is offered.

Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
