Scranton Iron Furnaces is off I-81 exit 185 at 159 Cedar Ave. These four stone stacks are remnants of the Lackawanna Iron & Coal Co. blast furnaces, which were built 1848-57. The furnaces, catalysts for the development of Scranton, were the second largest producers of iron in the nation. Visitors can take self-guiding tours of the grounds, which offer educational exhibits.
