Berks County Heritage Center

Berks County Heritage Center is .4 mi. s. off SR 183 at 1102 Red Bridge Rd. This interpretive complex focuses on the history of the rural wagon industry and canal transportation. The complex includes Wertz's Covered Bridge (also known as Red Bridge), the longest single-span covered bridge in the state, and the 5-mile Union Canal Bicycle and Walking Trail, which traces a former canal towpath. The C. Howard Hiester Canal Center, Melcher's Grist Mill, Deppen Cemetery, Gruber Wagon Works, the Bicentennial Eagle Memorial and Veteran's Memorial also are featured.

A stone farmhouse serves as the information center.
