AAA Editor Notes
Mother Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church is at 419 Richard Allen Ave. at S. 6th between Pine and Lombard sts. The 1890 church is the fourth structure on the site; the original 1794 building is said to have been the nation's first AME Church. It was a stop on the Underground Railroad. Of note are the symbolic stained-glass windows, which have been restored.

The church also houses the Richard Allen Museum, containing items belonging to the church's founder, including original pews and Allen's pulpit and Bible. Allen and his wife, Sarah, are interred here.
