Grey Towers National Historic Site is .5 mi. w. on US 6, then .3 mi s.w. on Old Owego Tpke. This 1886 estate was the summer home of conservationist Gifford Pinchot, a former Pennsylvania governor and first chief of the USDA Forest Service. Designed to resemble a French château, the stone mansion is built of native materials and furnished in 1920s style. Guided 1-hour tours of the first floor are given. Visitors may wander through the restored gardens and walking trails on their own. Special tours and events are offered.
Pets are not permitted in the mansion.
Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
