The State Museum of Pennsylvania, 300 North St., presents Pennsylvania's heritage from the Earth's beginning to the present. Archeological artifacts, decorative arts, fine art galleries and industrial and technological innovations can be seen. A Civil War exhibit includes Peter F. Rothermel's 1870 “The Battle of Gettysburg: Pickett's Charge” painting. Curiosity Connection is a hands-on learning environment for children ages 5 and younger. Mammal Hall, a restored mastodon skeleton and a planetarium also are featured.
