Fonthill Castle

Fonthill Castle, E. Court St. at SR 313 (Swamp Rd.), is the castle-like dream house of Henry Mercer. Built in 1912, this concrete mansion was designed by the owner from the inside out; he designed the interiors of the rooms and then planned the exteriors to accommodate them. The multilevel dwelling, which can be explored only on a guided tour, has more than 44 rooms, 32 stairways and more than 200 windows. Mercer’s own Arts and Crafts tiles embellish walls and ceilings throughout; prints and objects from Mercer's life also are featured.
