Philadelphia Zoo, 3400 Girard Ave. W. within Fairmount Park, first opened on July 1, 1874. Today the 42-acre Victorian garden is home to nearly 1,900 animals, including many rare and endangered species. Zoo360 is an animal trail system that enables primates and big cats to roam above the zoo, creating interesting viewing opportunities for visitors. KeyBank Big Cat Falls offers guests an up close look at endangered cats from around the globe. PECO Primate Reserve offers an encounter with primates and the McNeil Avian Center provides lush walk-through habitats where visitors discover more than 100 birds, many of them rare and endangered.

Visitors can feed exotic birds in Wings of Asia, and Outback Outpost houses animals native to Australia. KidZooU features hands-on experiences for children, wildlife displays and rare breeds. Visitors can get up close and personal through behind-the-scenes encounters with several animals including rhinos, hippos, penguins and giant tortoise.

Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
