Tallgrass Prairie Preserve

Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, 18 mi. n. on Kihekah, following signs to preserve headquarters, is a 40,000-acre open range that supports more than 750 species of plants in addition to 2,700 bison, bobcats, coyotes, prairie chickens, bob-white quails, wild turkeys, squirrels and rabbits. The preserve also includes a functioning tallgrass prairie ecosystem.
A driving tour along the preserve's gravel roads offers access to scenic views and 3 miles of hiking trails. Docents are available at the visitor center to explain the mission of the prairie. Also at the visitor center are educational displays including hands-on prairie animal fossils.
