The Historic Mattie Beal Home
AAA Editor Notes
The Historic Mattie Beal Home is at 1008 S.W. 5th St. at jct. Summit Ave. The house was built 1907-09 for Mattie Beal, a young Kansan who won a 160-acre plot in the 1901 Oklahoma land lottery. The 14-room house was, for many years, one of the finest in Lawton.
A philanthropist, Ms. Beal donated land for parks, a church and a school. She also subdivided her property into affordable lots for new settlers. The house has been restored to how it appeared in 1923. Highlights include the original grand staircase, curved front door, the second floor ballroom, stained glass windows and an Italian marble mantle.
