Lake Metroparks Penitentiary Glen Nature Center

Lake Metroparks Penitentiary Glen Nature Center is at 8668 Kirtland-Chardon Rd. The center is on 424 acres and is part of the early 20th-century estate of Sam and Blanche Halle. A deep gorge divides the park, which features fields, forests and wetlands, a butterfly garden, wildlife center, live animal displays and a nature center with interactive exhibits and art shows. More than 7 miles of paved and gravel trails with scenic overlooks and a bridle trail can be explored. A miniature steam-powered train provides rides to the rim of the gorge a few times each month on Sundays April through December.
